The Story Behind the “Must Fight”
The alien invasion, as apocalypse itself, is a common feature in science fiction stories and films. “War of the Worlds,” “Independence Day,” “Signs” are some good examples.
People sometimes question themselves: “What happens if the world ends?” or… “What to do if the Earth is suddenly invaded?”, “Aren’t we alone in the Universe?”…
Like many other people, I had these questions too. “War of the Worlds”, a novel by H. Wells was one of my favorite books when I was a child. I was often reading that book while I was listening to Jeff Wayne’s rock musical version of it. During those times my imagination, combined with the soundtrack and created an entire movie experience in my head.
Can you imagine how happy I was when Spielberg released “War of the Worlds” in 2005? I was extremely excited and watched it, maybe, ten times.
Also, the sound design was so exceptional there. I think it was one of the first movies that employed that unique sound of an alien tripod.
Another good alien invasion movie that I liked was “Signs.” It perfectly showed the intention created by unexpected events around one family. A story tells about a father who gave up his beliefs after he lost his wife. How can he protect his kids in these new circumstances? Will he start to believe again?
In 2018, “A Quiet Place” was released. The story is about the post-apocalyptic world where a family is forced to live in silence to avoid the giant creatures find and kill them.
And that movie just shook my whole world.
Yes, it was a breathtaking thriller, the best in its genre and theme. But it was so much MORE about love, family, and all these emotions connected with the fear of losing each other. It was also about how far parents would go to protect their kids.
Movies, like life stories, can impact me hugely. The inspiration I got from “A quiet place,” the film that “stays” with you for a long time, was enormous.
As 2018 is the year I started to produce music, I thought it would be great to try myself in cinematic/soundtrack type of music that I could make based on that inspiration. But my skills were still weak at that time when I watched the movie, so I left the idea for later.
A couple of weeks ago I got an idea for a new track, which was going to be in my usual style. I knew that those ideas I got would lead to something emotional. So I wanted to make an emotional track.
I started to create a composition around these chords, but it suddenly transformed into an entirely new concept, when I added that horn sound, creating an anxious atmosphere. And that was the moment I decided to get back to those idea to make this kind of music. It was a very emotional experience for me. I’m glad I did it.
Here is what I got. The new track called “Must Fight” is created in the electronic cinematic genre. It tells a story about fears, struggles, and beliefs. It tells a story about willingness to fight for your loved ones in extreme circumstances. And it tells a story about a greater love.
I want to thank everyone, who participated in a discussion in my Facebook group about how to name this track! You provided a lot of great ideas that helped! Thank you for being a part of this creating process!
